3 Signs Your Strategy and Operations Aren’t Aligned

Does your organization feel like it’s constantly running in circles, even though you have a clear strategy and good people in place?

Here are 3 signs your strategy and operations might not be aligned—and how to fix it.

  1. You're Always Firefighting Instead of Focusing on Long-Term Goals
When your team spends most of its time solving immediate problems, it’s a sign your team either doesn’t understand the organization’s strategic priorities or their role in helping to achieve goals (or both!). Work with the team to set clear objectives that are directly connected to your strategic plan and focus on tasks that support those goals.

  2. There's Constant Miscommunication Between Teams
When teams work in silos, there’s little coordination toward common goals – the result is often duplication of effort, misunderstandings and inefficiencies. Foster opportunities for different teams to work with and learn from one another. Be consistent in your communications about strategy and clear on the various roles and responsibilities needed to meet these goals.

  3.  You're Not Seeing the Expected Results
If the results don’t match your expectations, it might be because your operations aren’t supporting your strategy effectively. Take a step back to assess your available resources and the processes your team is following. Work with your team to change the approach, to innovate or change course. As you make changes, be sure to review progress and continually make adjustments as needed.
